Module 1: Prepare for SSP
SSP requires clarity on the area where SSP will be applied and on the coordinating organization that will lead the SSP process. SSP can be implemented by a local authority or within the operations of a sanitation service provider such as a utility, faecal sludge management service or entity treating and using treated faecal waste. Implementation in the entire administrative area by local authorities is the goal. However, when initiating SSP, specific subareas, and specific challenges for public health and the sanitation service chain may be prioritized. In all cases, a team needs to be identified that represents the various steps of the sanitation system.
